Our Two Cents - Empathy a far cry!

Writer's picture: TalentschaftTalentschaft

We live each day being part of a mad rat race knowingly or unknowingly. Time and attention are highly priced, and scarce entities. Bereft of niceties, exchanges of normal human interactions that were commonplace even a half decade ago no longer exist, constant attention seeking struggles becomes rampant in all forms of man-made structures, be it a family, betwixt individuals, friends, work place and even social interaction forums. Besides time and attention, perception of one’s resultant reaction vis – a vis, all forms and levels of interactions, deeply influence one’s stimulus and resultant reactions. The ghastly apathy seen in human interactions result in attitudinal dysfunction.

#Perception or the ability to interpret the circumstantial and contextual happenings based on one’s understanding of the information often dictates the ways we build empathy. When perception is colored, tainted or manipulated to see things in his/her expected dimensions, empathy remains still born. The lack of #empathy results in gradual breakdown of various forms of #relationship, and de-sensitization to the needs of the others as well as stereotyping of individuals.

As a society we need to work our way back to being an empathetic one, where man-made compartments are broken down

and we perceive the needs of others to be the needs of ours too. For this, let’s start a small movement to sensitize our young one’s from the schools and create deeper impactful interventions in the college students and the youth, by small steps. We need virtues of empathy and proactive reactions ingrained in us.

We need to see humanity back amidst us!
